SCHOMBURG awarded for environmental performance
Since April 2014 SCHOMBURG has been engaged with the environmental project ÖKOPROFIT (Ecological Project for Integrated Environmental Technology), which supports companies with environmental and climate protecting measures. Now the East Westphalian construction product specialist has been awarded the appropriate certificate for its exemplary environmental performance, which documents the success of the measures implemented.
On 25th June 2015 the ÖKOPROFIT certificate was given to SCHOMBURG by the head of the district authority Friedel Heuwinkel during a celebratory gathering. The project is a cooperation between the Lippe district, the local economy and other regional and national partners. It is financially supported by the Ministry for the Environment and Nature Protection, Agriculture and Consumer Protection for North Rhine Westphalia. Eleven companies from the Lippe district have participated in the established concept and in the meantime, there are more than 2,000 companies nationwide from over 80 towns.
The sustainable economical and ecological strengthening of the organisation is the main drive for ÖKOPROFIT. Specifically targeted measures enhance the environment and help to lower running costs. The central topic is the reduction of waste water and energy consumption, the lowering of waste quantities as well as increasing material efficiency. This leads to a considerable reduction in CO2 pollution in the environment.
In addition to the photovoltaic units installed three years ago, SCHOMBURG has, within the scope of the project, planned or already instigated additional measures. To avoid peak current, operational procedures have changed. In addition efficient and enironmentally friendly heating technology has been conceived. “The conversion of our heating plant has certainly caused considerable investment but this will be recouped in a short time frame“, said Operations Manager Andreas Tiemann.
Administration has been converted to electronic invoicing. In addition there has been a change from conventional lighting to modern LED technology.
Tangible numerical examples document the success of energy savings, which have been achieved through the measures implemented. Consequently the CO2 output was reduced by around 63,000 kg and a total of 256,961 kWh saved in energy.
“Ecological thinking and sustainability is an important part of our company philosophy“ , said Managing Director Ralph Schomburg. “Anchored in our guidelines, it determines our daily trade“.
For many years SCHOMBURG has been focussed on environmentally friendly production and sustainable products. As an example from 2008, there was the conversion to environmentally friendly and recyclable plastic sacks. Furthermore, many SCHOMBURG products now carry various environmental symbols such as e.g. EMICODE as an accolade for products with particularly low emissions. This demonstrates that the company sets new benchmarks regarding the requirements for sustainable economies, construction and ultimately also for living.
